The Latest Wellness Report and What it Means for Wellbeing in your Workplace

Australians spend on average 1/3 of their lives at work, which can be exhausting, draining, uninspiring and unengaging when organisations don’t support their teams’ wellbeing at work.

The latest Wellness Report from Employment Hero surveyed over 1000 people from around Australia between 12 April to 1 May 2024, asking them about their mental health, professional relationships, cost of living crisis and more. The result? Essential reading for any business leader in 2024 and beyond. Even further proof that wellbeing strategies are needed more than ever, and we can help.

Of the 60-something page report, the results on burnout had us extremely concerned for the current state of workplace wellbeing.

Here are a few high-level stats before we dive into insights and unpack what the data really means and how our Wellbeing Program can support organisational change for the better.

Let’s Talk About Burnout

Ever prevalent, burnout is on the rise. This huge jump from 2 years ago (53% to 66%!) should be of serious concern to employers and organisations. Why? Because burnout is preventable!

Burnout is on the rise due to:

All this and more!

Important to note, remember that this is against the backdrop of a volatile economic landscape, job uncertainty and a post-pandemic world.

The answer isn’t another survey. It’s not another push-button, check-box solution that offers organisations an easy way out of making any real or sustainable change.

The answer is a strategic platform that through real answers and quantifiable results, can lead to lasting change.

The Platform

Skodel: Understand the reason behind how your team feels at work and why.

A challenge all organisations face is engaging everyone to take a proactive approach to looking after their wellbeing. When done well, that’s when individuals and organisations flourish.

The Skodel Check-in features make it easy for leaders to drive engagement and fun for everyone to participate.

As a leader, you can get access to insights on how your teams are feeling about specific changes in the workplace. Find out what is causing the issue at the click of a button.

The Transformation

The Wellbeing Program: Data-driven, humanised solutions for wellbeing at work.

Leaders and organisations know by now that topical band-aid wellbeing solutions just aren’t effective anymore. And it’s plaguing the true effectiveness of a holistic, leader-led program that combines organisational culture and wellbeing at all levels.

With new WHS legislation and a workforce that’s feeling burnt out, organisations can no longer turn a blind eye to the wellbeing of their people.

As the burnout epidemic sweeps through our workforces, it’s crucial for organisations to address these rising concerns, not merely at face value, but through deep, internal investigations aimed at reversing these negative effects. By prioritising engagement, satisfaction, and employee happiness, organisations can ultimately drive higher productivity and achieve greater results.

It’s not always possible to do in-house, but our highly targeted approach is focused on individuals and leaders, working top-down to address challenges using relevant and key data points to inform specific strategies for your organisation.

How do we do it?

It starts with understanding how your people really feel.

Our approach to wellbeing is more than just a program. It’s a top-down, leader-led approach that encourages individuals to take ownership of their own wellbeing while equipping leaders with the tools and resilience they need to lead their team by example.

Our strategy has three clearly identified sections to ensure a sustainable strategy:

  1. Leading wellbeing (The Leaders Program)
  2. Creating wellbeing (The Individuals Program)
  3. Measuring wellbeing (Skodel)

Then we dive into culture – the overarching environment the team experiences every day. We help clients create a supportive environment through psychological safety and open communication that demonstrates a visible and active commitment to each individual’s wellbeing.

Wellbeing and culture don’t just coexist – they are two sides of a coin; you can’t have one without the other.

Remember, when your employees, teams and leaders feel supported in their wellbeing at work (on work time) they are more likely to be positive and productive in the workplace; something all employers should be consistently attempting to achieve and maintain.

Let’s Talk About Stress

“Based on the rates of burnout in the workplace, it’s no surprise that stress levels are high in the workplace right now.”

In the last 3 months,

And 16% said every day of the week.

An interesting insight in line with the burnout data, women had higher levels of stress, with 46% indicating they feel stressed at work a few days a week, compared to 30% of men.

These are alarming, to say the least. Stress and burnout play a major part in mental and physical health, which in turn affects performance at work.

“53% of employees rated their employer’s commitment to improving overall health and wellbeing as good”, which is unfortunately only a 1% increase from 2022 – but any growth is good, right?

What can organisations do to improve employee wellbeing?

According to the report, 2 out of the 4 recommendations are solutions we already help organisations across the country to build great teams, support high-performing people and foster a culture of wellbeing.

  1. Create a flexible development and coaching strategy. Our leadership development and mid-level coaching programs are customised to suit your organisation’s needs, combined with proven embedding tools and sustainable strategies to ensure the content isn’t just implemented but maintained.
  2. Never underestimate the importance of feedback. We believe feedback is a gift. It’s a core foundation of all our work and something we instil in our clients and our own team. This isn’t just for the growth of individuals, but for the development of strategic programs ensuring maximum effectiveness and impact for people involved and being impacted by it. The Skodel platform allows for anonymous, collated feedback and insights to inform these strategies.

We also can conduct several in-house surveys to evaluate team effectiveness and organisational culture, with the added ability to support a long-term development program.

As a leader, there is nothing more important than your team. Being able to support their wellbeing is essential to organisational success and longevity. If you are interested in finding out more about our offering, please contact us – we’d love to help!
