Power of Emotional Resilience

The rapid global outbreak of the Coronavirus has presented itself as an alarming health crisis that currently, the world is grappling with and calls for an equally matched emergency response.

The social and economic impact has proven to test even the most resilient, bringing on anxiety, instability and emotional stress to many, creating immense psycho-social disturbances.

We, as humans, are designed to be highly capable and intelligent problem solvers who intuitively become flexible in stressful times that are out of our control. Situations, such as this pandemic, have without a doubt tested our emotional resilience and our ability to bounce back from scenarios that affect our everyday routine.

It’s safe to say that our success from this lies in our ability to cope with and act creatively to these challenges we have been presented with.

So how do we collect and pick ourselves up during this stressful period?

We need to focus our attention on building our emotional resilience ‘muscle’. Many of us spend a lot of time in the gym building physical resilience, yet we often neglect the less tangible muscle we need to build on that is just as important, emotional resilience.

Emotional resilience refers to our ability to adapt quickly in the face of adversity. It is our capacity to recover quickly when certain events have been difficult to manage and requires qualities of adaptability, strength and endurance.
